Historically, HV fluid impregnated paper insulated cables had a history of reliability, but required a complex system design which included oil tanks and hydraulic flow control. Also, the risk of oil leaks causing serious environmental issues and possible cable failure. The development of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation proved to be a breakthrough, a cost-effective solution, these cable systems require little, if any, maintenance.
XLPE cable systems allow for efficient transmission of energy, whilst having a comparatively low degree of design and installation complexity. TELE-FONIKA Kable have developed this technology to enable the introduction of cable systems up to 500 kV.

Continuous temperature measurement system (DTS)
TELE-FONIKA Kable can offer high voltage cable systems with an inbuilt fibre placed in a protective tube laid within the copper wire screen for DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensing) continuous cable temperature measurement.
